my latest project

Hello! It’s Amy. I have been part of an ongoing project that engages elders in Durham, NC with creative storytelling and performance workshops. It started off in 2020 when I was honored to be selected as one of three artists in residents for an exciting collaboration between Dementia Inclusive Durham and Timeslips.

In this residency, I worked with Durham based communities of care, leading creative Zoom workshops, and helping to shape responses from these workshops into shareable artwork.

Another critical partner in this project is Dr. Sarah Wilbur’s Duke class Artists in Healthcare: Collaborations and Complexities, for whom I gave an artist talk over Zoom in 2021, visited her class in 2022, and have been delighted to share in the co-learning process with these students. You can read a blog from Dr. Wilbur here.

Take a look at the virtual zine I created from my work with the elders and students here.

Check out the video the Duke students made below from sessions I facilitated with the elders.

I continued to work with tDr. Wilbur’s Artists in Healthcare class in the fall of 2002 and have been invited back for the fall of 2024 as a lead artist. I’ll be leading improv workshops alongside Duke students at Durham Center for Senior Life as well as continuing work leading Timeslips workshops.
